Want to get work experience and earn some money in the process? Area businesses and organizations that are looking for youth employees are being encouraged to list their jobs on the web at the New Mexico Workforce Connection website www.jobs.state.nm.us -- click on "Find a Job" and select our zip code or our county. Entering "youth" in the keyword search will bring back a list of job openings for teens and youth.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is a great way to strengthen your college application while performing a needed service in the community. Consider your strengths, your interests, what you would like to learn, and what you can offer as you evaluate opportunities for volunteering. Organizations in our area are putting their volunteer opportunities on the web at a site called Volunteer Match www.volunteermatch.org. You can view volunteer opportunities at the Volunteer Match website by entering our zipcode into the search box. You can also optionally register your interests and keep track of your volunteering (parental permission required if under 16 years old).

Business Opportunities

You may want to explore going into business for yourself. You can try your hand at something small or large. Locally, business advice and grants of money are given to young entrepreneurs. Information is available at www.ybgp.org.

Youth Mobilizers

The Family YMCA, in partnership with the JJAB, is recruiting 2 motivated youth to work as Youth Mobilizers. We are seeking youth who are interested in researching issues affecting local youth. Hours would include Monday thru Thursday 3:30pm-5:30pm. For additional information contact Linda Daly at the Family YMCA at 662-3100. Afternoon work at White Rock Preschool

Sage Cottage Montessori School in White Rock is seeking part-time afternoon help to work with the children, help clean, and set up class projects.

Pay: $6.00 - 8.50 starting - depending upon age and experience
14 and 15 yr olds will need work permit available through school councilor

High School Counselors for Nature Odyssey Summer Programs

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is now accepting applications for the position of high school counselor for the Nature Odyssey Summer Program. The Nature Odyssey is a nature/science program for kids entering 4th-6th grades. Three programs are offered throughout the month of June. Locations include:

June 2-6- Rio Grande Valley

June 9-13 Pajarito Plateau

June 16-20 Valles Caldera National Preserve

Counselors receive a stipend of $100 for each week worked.
